Duolingo Valuation

 I have been a Duolingo user for few years now. Been using it to study French and Spanish I valued the company a month ago, made a video about it, and thought I'd post it here. All in all, I found the company overpriced, because I assume that it will be difficult for the company to raise its advertising revenue per user to levels commensurate to other platform companies because Duolingo does not benefit from the network effect. Furthermore, I also believe Duolingo will run into the account sharing problem Netflix is facing now. More detailed analysis in the slide deck and video.

My Thoughts on Cryptoassets

Since the inception of cryptocurrency in 2009 it has taken on a roller-coaster journey of transformation from a currency to buy drugs to a more than two and a half trillion-dollar market. With the emergence of decentralised applications (Dapps) on infrastructures built using distributed ledger technologies (DLTs), cryptoassets could be the cornerstones of the next technological revolution of decentralisation. Therefore, understanding the crypto asset class is crucial to any investor. Cryptoasset could be a good diversifier and a potential hedge. On the flip side, if it is merely a bubble, one could devise a short position to hedge against it. I will argue that given the various headwinds the asset class faces and widespread speculation by retail investors, Bitcoin is worthless. Although the Ethereum platform offers bright promises, so did countless internet platform companies in the late 1990s. One has to be wary of overvaluation. Actually Shorting bitcoin

On March 5th, I published a blog post titled “Bitcoin Revisited: Why I am Still Bearish,” in which I made a case for shorting Bitcoin. Despite my prediction, the cryptocurrency has since risen by approximately 30%. However, I ultimately refrained from shorting Bitcoin due to the poor track record of the only investment vehicle available: the ProShares Short Bitcoin Strategy ETF. This fund failed to rise even when Bitcoin declined. For more information, please refer to my original post. Recent developments have led me to reconsider my stance and open a short position in Bitcoin.
